Photo contest prize-winning work
<Commentary by judge (photographer Tadayasu Ozawa)>
This is the 20th anniversary of Gifu City's tourism photo contest, and with the recent advent of digital cameras and smartphones, taking pictures has become easier than ever before.
One of the characteristics of recent contest submissions is that many of the photographs were taken at night, and many of this year's winning entries were photographs of sunsets and nightscapes.
The beauty of photographs of sunsets and nightscapes is quite eye-catching, but the beauty of nightscapes is not enough. looks very attractive. This year's selection focuses on such works.

Grand Prix
"Between clouds with the full moon rising over Gifu Castle"
Hiroaki OkabeShooting location: Noribu Higashi, Gifu City Judge's comment: This work takes advantage of the characteristics of Gifu City, which has a mountain surrounded by plains and a castle on the top of the mountain, and the composition with the clouds is attractive. Since the impression of the work changes greatly depending on how many clouds cover the moon, the moment when the clouds are just the right composition is taken.
Semi-Grand Prix
"Return"
Kazuhide KawadeShooting location: Left bank of the Nagara River Judge's comment: In order to take a good photo, such as the balance with the brightly lit bonfire, the expression of the cormorant fisherman, and the moment when the cormorants move, there are various conditions that must be met before taking a good picture. I think you've captured the moment when the cormorants come to life.
"Yoimiya for the First Time in Three Years"
Naomi ItoShooting location: Inaba Shrine Judge's comment: Due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection, there are many photos of people wearing masks, and it is becoming difficult to convey people's expressions and warmth in photos. The people in the back of the photo look as if they are on the side of the people in the foreground, and the lively atmosphere of the festival conveys the warmth of the people.
